Sarah trained as the University of Northumbria where she gained a B.A.hons degree in Graphic Design. Her wok has gone through many stages of development but she now works mainly in oils and mixed media, using impasto and sgraffito techniques, taking her inspiration from the rivers and reservoirs within a stones throw of her studio in Ramsgill in Upper Nidderdale.
She loves the wok of the impressionists, Scottish colourists and the Group of Seven who have undoubtedly influenced her work.
"My work is based on the natural environment with water being a running theme. I like to work outside in all seasons, next to the water, filling sketchbooks with ideas, often working contre-jour, developing the ideas back in the studio. Nature and the outdoors are my sanctuary reflected in the restful ebb and flow of the paintings. I hope to pass on the nurturing effects of the outdoors by bringing it into peoples homes."
