By the Light of the Moon
The symbolic moon crescent appears suspended within the sculpture, held in relation to a form that is reminiscent of a sundial — or perhaps, more appropriately, a moon dial.
The title reflects the idea of the moon as a source of direction. For centuries, people have used the night sky to navigate, finding their way when the landscape itself offers few clues. Here, the moon becomes a symbol of that orientation: a point by which we might find our bearings when things are uncertain or obscured.
By the Light of the Moon is therefore not simply about the moon itself, but about direction, navigation and the possibility of finding our way through darkness.
A thoughtful piece that sits comfortably between art, craft and functional design—and a wonderful example of the creativity of local maker Darren Rumley.
