Luna - Sycamore Painted Plate

One evening in January inspiration struck and Pete headed to his lathe, it was for the first time in months that he had seen a full moon hanging in a clear night sky. Taking a sycamore blank off the shelf Pete started turning, as the pattern emerged in the wood and the form became clearer, shades of the moon that he had seen on his way to the workshop was now sitting on the lathe in front of him. Some wind shake in the timber was enhanced with a brass powder infill. To complete the piece, a range of iridescent paints was selected and layered them on the wide brim to frame the centre, the platter was then finished with several layers of lacquer and buffed with a beeswax abrasive paste.
