From the artist:
"Ledmore Marble is from the north west peninsular of Scotland which faces onto the Outer Hebrides.
I used the technique of direct carving to see what the stone revealed as I carved following the grain, colour and form of the original stone to release this abstract piece. My initial inspiration was the small chicken like head above the chest of black stone. One side has a leaf like proportions and has echoes of some form of creature. The reverse side, which was originally covered in a pale grey skin, revealed these beautiful radiating green curves which could be interpreted as a shell.
The name of the sculpture is related to its colouring. Chartreuse is vibrant lime green colour named after the herbal drink made by Carthusian monks since 1737 in the Chartreuse mountains north of Grenoble."
