Sunset on Crackpot Falls - Upper Swaledale

  • £1,795

Oil and mixed media on board, framed in

 white.

Location Information
In upper Swaledale the road that links Gunnerside, Low Row and Muker is a joy to drive and famed for its spring wild flowers. Just south of Gunnerside is the hamlet of Crackpot, actually no more than a collection of farm houses, and a set of lovely waterfalls. I made my reference drawings late in the afternoon on a cold February day, catching the glow of the winter sun as it was setting. It’s actually the best time to see the falls as the ravine is quite wooded, and as the leaves come out, the falls are hidden. Up above this main cascade are a smaller set of falls also well worth visiting, especially in bluebell season.
