Park Gallery After Hours: New Artists for the Literature Festival

Park Gallery Open Late for the First Night of the Literature Festival

To mark the opening day of the Cheltenham Literature Festival, Park Gallery will be staying open until 8pm on Friday 9 October, with wine being served throughout the evening.

The focus will be on two artists who are new to the gallery: Kerry Louise Bennett and Betty Pepper.

Kerry Louise Bennett is a self-taught expressive painter whose work is driven by colour, texture and pattern. Her paintings often draw on still life, plants, interiors and familiar objects, but with a bold, theatrical quality and a strong sense of storytelling. Influences include fairy tales, magical realism, music and the emotional associations we attach to everyday things. Kerry Louise Bennett

Betty Pepper works on a much smaller scale, creating intricate paper sculptures and book art from damaged and discarded books. Her tiny houses and landscapes form part of an imaginative world in which each piece seems to carry its own character and story. It feels particularly fitting to introduce Betty’s work during the Literature Festival, where the relationship between books, words and visual art is already very much in the air. bettypepper.co.uk

Part of a wider evening in Montpellier

We won’t be the only gallery opening late. A number of galleries around Montpellier are joining together for the first evening of the Literature Festival, giving visitors the opportunity to move between exhibitions and discover a broader cross-section of Cheltenham’s independent art scene.

Alongside Park Gallery, Sixteen Gallery will be opening its Postcard Show, Paragon Gallery will be presenting PJ Crook’s Literary Lions & Other Beasts, and the Gloucestershire Guild of Craftsmen will be welcoming visitors to its exhibition at the Gardens Gallery.

So, whether you are already in town for the Literature Festival or simply fancy an evening exploring some of Montpellier’s galleries, do call in.
