Peter Sharman
Peter was born in Liverpool and lived in the North of England prior to settling in Winchcombe, Gloucestershire.
As a member of the South Sefton Artists in Liverpool, a group of professional and semi-professional artists he received one to one tuition in a life class environment from the leading members over four years. During this time Peter honed his technique, the importance of good draughtsmanship forms the basis of his semi-figurative and abstract work.
Peter works mainly in charcoal, oils and acrylics. He admires the old masters such as Caravaggio and Rembrandt along with Turner, Degas, Cezanne, Freud and Auerbach.
“I am motivated by the figure but not in a way of trying to simply imitate but to go beyond the appearance and capture what is sensed but not seen, an atmosphere a mood the energy that surrounds the figure. I try to represent these sensual characteristics by the abstract way l apply the paint and yet leave elements of the figure for the viewer to find.”
