Jonathan Luxon
Jonathan's main inspiration has always been the human figure, especially portraiture. His current works aim to explore the power of figurative realism to convey the world of personal spiritual experience through intimate portrait focused narrative incorporating the dramatic interplay of light and dark.
Jonathan was the winner of the 2023 Cheltenham Christian Arts Festival's “New Life” competition hosted by the Park Gallery. Jonathan was also a semi-finalist in the televised 2019 series of SkyArts Portrait Artist of the Year (his portrait of actor Simon Callow was chosen by Mr. Callow as his selected work). He was shortlisted for the 2014 Bulldog Bursary award awarded by the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, and was winner of the 1993 Derbyshire Open Artists' Competition. Jonathan has exhibited in England and Scotland, including the Scottish Society of Artists and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters at the Mall Gallery, London.
Jonathan also undertakes portrait commissions and and teaches art in his local area of Moray in North East Scotland. He has undertaken commissions for The Hon David Wigglesworth, former High Sherriff of Derby, and author Simon Winchester.
Jonathan studied Fine Art at Canterbury Christ Church University.
