From the artist:
"The sculpture is carved in Zimbabwean Springstone. In Zimbabwe, the stone is exposed to direct heat and wax applied to enhance the colour of the stone. The heat opens the pores of the stone to the wax giving the stone a dark, high shine.
The sculpture is called Femoris after one of the strongest muscles in the body. The inspiration for this sculpture was the crossed thighs of a female's legs. Once finished, I felt that displaying them in an ascending rather than a descending orientation was more aesthetically pleasing."
Series: Vitality
This is a series looking at the different aspects of Vitality. Femoris is the strongest muscle in the legs of the female, Citrus is a source of vitamins for an active healthy life and Chartreuse is the verdant green colour of vegetative and herbal life. The variety of the colours also reflects the wide-ranging aspects of vitality. The stones bring vitality from over the world from Zimbabwe, Italy and Scotland respectively.
