When a trunk on a tree divides in two, there is something beautiful that occurs. The grains ripple and swirl at a point of union like currents where rivers meet. This hollow form celebrates that beauty and so much more. One half and one side of the split, had developed mycological activity long before the other. As a result there was far more bleaching and melanistic plates adorning it. The other side, rich in colour, strong and weighty creates a distinct juxtaposition. This piece posed a wealth of challenges when working it due to the imbalance in densities between the two sides, the turning had to be done at a low speed yet as quickly as possible to ensure even drying. The rising swelling shouders spring from the foot and the duality of the two become one, one river rich in sediment and nutrient and the other clean and crisp.
